Disposable cameras are a cute idea and fun for the guests. They're especially fabulous for keeping younger guests entertained throughout the night. Sadly though, sometimes they either: a) don't get used, or b) the pictures are all too dark/blurry/etc to get a good picture. It's quite sad. But fear not! For here is a great idea that: a) gets the pictures used up, and b) creates specific subjects to seek out- and yet even with the same subject, each picture will have a brilliantly different angle and point of view :)

Don't forget to have some hand wipes or a damp cloth in the immediate vicinity for guests to clean excess ink (in your wedding colors) off of their thumbs. Also, be sure to have a few skinny pens or sharpies on hand for name signing around each thumb print.

Trends for Your Fall Wedding Flowers

Choosing flowers for your fall wedding is much trickier than choosing flowers for a spring or summer wedding. This fall, it's all about texture! This means lush and rich hues. Instead of 2 or 3 varieties, try a large mix of flowers that fit within your color scheme. One of the best fall flowers is poppies- they add depth and are very dramatic- they let everyone know that summer is over and fall is here!

While texture is key, sticking with the classics is okay- Think autumn hues with a pop of an unexpected color scattered throughout. The quintessential fall blossom very well may be the dahlia. It's elegant and comes in just about every fall color- plum, orange, burgundy and red. Hydrangeas in antique greens and purples and calla lilies in a deep crimson are also great choices.

You can similarly polish the groomsmen's boutonnieres by having the stems wrapped either in ribbon or grosgrain ribbon. Your florist should be able to do both for you.

What's the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of centerpieces? Typically, the answer is flowers and there's nothing wrong with that, but do something different with them. Ideas include vases of different dimensions, different floral arrangements (don't do the same thing on each table), arrange the flowers in a shape other than a circle or square- like an eiffel tower. It can be something as simple as adding a few drops of food coloring that match your colors to the water, add pearls or fruit such as lemons, oranges, and limes (great for spring and summer weddings) to the bottom, add candles around the arrangement.

Bars, Bars, Bars

Open Bars, also known as a hosted bar, are the most popular and least expensive type of bar. The bride and groom pay for all the liquor and alcohol either in advance (giving a limit to the supply) or post- party.

Cash Bars, also known as a no-host bar. Similar to a nightclub, the guest pays for their own drinks. This is sometimes seen in bad taste or as tacky because you're asking your guests to pay for something at your party but it may also force the guest to limit their alcohol intake- resulting in less drinking and driving afterwards. *Signature drinks are traditionally free with this option*

DIY Bars are just that, do it yourself. You provide basic liquor from a wholesaler- vodka, gin, rum, bourbon, and scotch, a basic red and white wine, one or two popular beers. Also include a few popular mixes- orange and cranberry juices, coke, ginger ale, and tonic. Check with your local liquor store, most will take back unopened bottles. Remember, it's better to have too much and return leftovers after the wedding than to have to little and to make an emergency run/s for more. As a DIY you will also need to provide a bartender- check with your venue for license requirements, assorted glasses, bar towels, swizzle sticks, cocktail napkins, ice buckets, lemons and limes. You may also need consent from the reception venue to provide your own liquor.

Alternative Bars

*Cash Bar with Tickets: the host provides tickets for guests to have a limited number of free drinks and anything beyond that is on the guests' tab.

*Unique Bars such as candy bars, cappuccino and coffee bars, hot chocolate bars, smoothie, milkshake and/or ice cream sundae bars.

*Serve one or two signature drinks- which are traditionally served during the cocktail or dinner hour- if you have more than one you could choose do one drink during cocktail hour and another during your dinner hour.

Limited Bars have a limit on the alcohol selection. Typically, it's just a selection of wine and alcoholic punch.

Other Things to Be Aware Of
*Look into Party Alcohol Insurance. PAI covers the hosts for any damage to the property and in case of drinking related incident lawsuits. The host is required to provide one sober supervisor per 50 people- a bartender fits this bill.
*General etiquette says if there is a dinner hour, the bar is closed. So if you're having a 5 hour reception, the bar is open for 4 hours- unless you set a different time to close the bar.

The market average in the US is $24,066. In New York City, the average is $29,180.

A recent study done by home insurance firm, Liverpool Victoria, grooms-to-be used to spend about 3 months' salary on a ring but today, 2/3's of that number are spending about 3 weeks' salary. So while in 2007 men were spending $8,000 on his fiancé's ring, they're now spending about $2,000. The study also found that more than 50% of surveyed women had absolutely no idea how much their ring cost- but figured about a months' salary. 40% of surveyed men refused to tell how much they spent and 3% confessed to lying about how much they spent- spending less than they said they did.

All You Need to Know About Wedding Tipping

Although it is not obligatory to tip, it is customary to show gratitude to those who helped make your wedding a success. Here are a few guidelines to help you know how much to tip various vendors.

One thing to remember, you do not need to tip owners. If a photographer owns a studio, or a hairstylist owns a salon, you do not need to tip. Same goes for bands not chosen from an agency.

Hairstylists/ Makeup artists, who are not owners: 15%-20% of total bill if you go to a salon; tips are at your discretion if they come to you.

Ceremony Musicians: $20-$25 each should be offered by the best man.

Bartenders: 10% of the liquor bill to be split among the bar staff.

Officiant: While city officials cannot accept tips, a reasonable tip for clergy members is $75-$100.

Delivery People: These tips are to be offered on the spot. Somewhere between $5-$25 depending on time and work that was put in to the items (cakes, flowers, etc.).

Waitstaff: If gratuity is not included in the total bill, 15%-20% of the bill is a decent tip to be split among the waiters.

Summer Party: Sundae Best

There are countless benefits to throwing a summer ice cream party--including getting to say, "I'm having an ice cream social!" in your most wholesome Leave It To Beaver voice. When it comes to this event, you can make your party as casual or as elaborate as you wish! Even the most elaborate ice cream party is pretty easy to put on.

The simpler the ice cream choices, the crazier you can get with the toppings. Of course, you will have the typical hot fudge, marshmallow sauce, caramel, and strawberry sauce. But don't be afraid to have some fun with it! Add fresh fruit bowls, granola, various candy bar pieces, and even some broken up pretzels and nuts.

And before inviting the whole neighborhood, think about how many people you can realistically host.
Be sure you have enough for everybody!
Count on each person eating three 1/2 cup scoops. That will make 1 1/2 cups per person.

Whether you're a wedding guest or the one saying I do, there are makeup Do's and Don'ts that must be followed. Wearing too much to a simple ceremony will leave people with the impression that you are trying too hard. But not wearing enough makeup to a formal wedding will leave you looking like the Miss Havisham homebody who never gets out.
With that, some guidelines:

The Laid-Back Wedding: If this is a casual affair, you can usually get away with more and showing individual style is accepted in this setting. So if you like to play with your make-up, now is the time! So bright colors, a poppy shade on the cheeks or lips, or a jewel-toned eyeliner are all fun, fresh options.

The Outdoor Affair: Invited to nuptials on the hottest day of the year? Be sure you have SPF and that your foundation won't get cakey. Go for a tinted moisturizer and brush a light powder on top to avoid a shiny face in the sunlight. Skip the lipstick. And to give your eyes a wide-eyed look, curl your lashes.

After Hours Soiree: A late, formal wedding involves dressing to the nines. Remove the day's make-up buildup and give your face a fresh glow. Apply a luminizer on the cheekbones and a facial highlighter on the brow. Create a dramatic eye with a fat eyeliner pencil and a thick coat of mascara. Or, if applying that much on your eyes is too much for you, keep your eyes neutral and play up the lips with a fun coral color.

Time-Crunched Commute: Just woke up from a "short nap" with only five minutes to get ready and a thirty minute drive? Jump in your car and go. At the first stop sign, sweep a bronzer on your cheeks. At the next red light, apply a rosy shade on your eyes. This will warm up and freshen your face. Hit your eyelashes with a curler at the next stop you make. It is quicker and less messy than trying to fumble around with mascara. Finally, while walking from your car, put on a tinted gloss or lip color.

How to Write Thank-You Notes

Somewhere between childhood's chore of sitting down to write a thank-you on bright colored paper to the ease of just shooting off an email, we forgot etiquette's art of writing a thank-you note. And grandma is not pleased. Now that you are a grownup, an email will not do, and more is expected out of you than, "Thanks for the present, you rock!"

Thank-you note-writing is a lovely tradition that has been near-forgotten in this information age.
So, let's revive a little gracious living, shall we?

1. Be Timely

A thank-you note should be sent within two weeks of the engagement party or shower and eight weeks upon returning from the honeymoon.

2. Be Personal

Do not say, "Thank you for the blender."
Rather, express genuine gratitude: "Dear Bill and Susan, It was wonderful seeing you at our wedding! The blender you gave us was such a thoughtful gift...."

3. Mention Past, Allude to Future

Express the joy of the receiver's presence at your wedding. Also, tell them of how you plan to use the gift in the future.
"The coffee maker will prove to be a wonderworker for Brad in the mornings--you know how he needs his coffee! Thank you for thinking of my sanity."

4. Send Note for Number of Gifts Received

If Aunt June sends you a gift for you engagement, bridal shower, and the wedding, send her three notes--one for each gift.

DIY Cork Board: A great way to stick with your theme while also showing off you and your fiancé's personalities. You will need:

LOTS of corks
Super glue
A picture frame

Lay out your corks on the backing of the picture frame to make sure they all fit. If they do not, you can adjust the size by using a knife to cut down some of the corks. Once you have your design laid out and you are sure everything fits, glue down the corks one by one. Let your board dry, then stick the backing in the frame. Add some pictures and your board is complete!

DIY: We took a few different shapes of mirrors and old paintings and turned them info chalk boards. Here are a few pics of the transformation!

This is the original mirror. First we taped off the mirror portion to prime and paint the frame. We used spray paint so that we could get into all the little tight spaces.

Once that was dry, we primed and painted the chalk surface. We used chalk board spray paint from our local Home Depot. The primer was one that the paint associate recommended. The grey helped with coverage of the black chalk board paint.

This is the finished project! We made a bunch of different shaped boards, hung them from shephards hooks down the ceremony aisle with a love poem written on them. It was super cute! (and, it was a long aisle!)

Bible Study Recap for 10/26

This week there were a lot of ladies absent so we decided to hold off on our study on Opportunity and continue it next Monday, 11/2. Next week we will do studies 4 and 5: Opportunity and Ornament.

Bible study notes

We had such a great discussion in our first study group. We reviewed the first 2 lesson of our booklet. Here are some of the questions, answers and great points our group had to offer.

Lesson 1
In this lesson the statement is made "our significance comes from God, not others". I find this a totally liberating statement. If I don't have to find all my value in what my husband thinks of me or my actions, then I am not looking to him for constant affirmation. What a burden lifted from his shoulders. When I know God provides me with my worth and self esteem I am not searching for what my husband cannot provide.

In Genesis, God created man, saw that it was not good for him to be alone, and then created a helper for him. We asked the question, "What do you think of when you hear the word helper?". We had a lot of good answers, but 1 that struck me, b/c I felt the same, was the word maid or assistant. That's what I think of as a helper. And, honestly, I don't have time to be someones maid! But, upon further review of the word, we realized that in order to be a helper to someone, you have to possess something of value that they do not possess.

To be a helper is an exalted position. You cannot help someone if you are less than them. Being in a position to help someone means you are in a place of power. And, this is a perfect lead in to lesson 2!

In Lesson 2, we read that Jesus, knowing He was from God and would return to God, asked himself what He could do here on earth. And his answer was serve. Is He less than us b/c He is our everpresent help in trouble? NO! He is in a place of power, and that is why He is able to help us. All of this to say that 1. We are to follow Christ's example to be a servant and 2. Being a helper to our husbands is a powerful thing!

Our first discussion question in lesson 2 was "What does the world teach us about submission?" Several ladies agreed that the world thinks we give up who we are if we submit, that it's a controling relationship or we are enslaved. The bible completely disagrees, as we will see throughout this study:).

This lesson is a building block to all that is yet to come. It is an intro into why we have to submit and who we have to submit to. I will make this very easy and clear.

We submit b/c we sinned. We submit to God, goverment rulers, husbands and others. Christ says in 1 Corinthians 11:3 The authority of every man is Christ, of every woman is man and the authority of Christ is God.
In everything God created, he wanted order. He does not like chaos. So to have structure in the family, he created order by having wives submit to their husbands. This study is mostly about the womens role, b/c it's a women's study. But Christ designed the marriage structure to be a cycle. If a husband is loving his wife like Christ loved the church and putting her needs in front of his own, than it is easy to submit to him b/c we know he is leading from a place of love.

As you go through this study, do not concentrate on what your husband is or is not doing. We will get to that part later:). Instead, focus on what God is saying to you. Strive to be the wife that God called you to be.

We also discussed the practical applications in every lesson. I encourage you to read these at the begining of the week so that you can put them into practice as long as possible. The application for this week is to pray for a heart of submission at the start of each day. Take notes, or write in a journal, but try to observe what changes, good or bad, come from these practical applications. We will discuss them at the next lesson!

Real Wedding: Annie and David

Annie and David were married on August 22nd at the Scottish Rite. Their color scheme was black and white. To enhance their color scheme, they added accents of green in all of their flowers.

Working with Annie and David was such a pleasure. The wedding day went flawflessly due to their commitment to detail communication to their vendors.

All bridesmaids wore black cocktail dresses and each had its own unique style.

The ceremony was held upstairs at the Scottish Rite in the auditorium. Annie and David hired a string quartet to play the ceremony music that established a very romantic mood. The couple had a HUGE wedding party. Guests began to laugh as all 10 groomsmen entered the room.

The reception was probably one of the most fun I have worked in a while. As you can imagine, having a wedding party of 19 there is sure to be quite a bit of laughter on the dance floor.

For favors, Annie had ordered milk and dark chocolate mini candies with their name and wedding date printed on the label. All centerpieces were tall floral arrangments and full of candles. The 3 tiered wedding cake was very sophisticated and elegant with black ribbon and adorned with hydrangea and peonies. The grooms cake was shaped into the state of Texas, which is where the groom's family members reside.

Instead of your typical toast to the bride and groom, the maid of honor and best men made sure to give "Shank" (ie: the groom) a good roasting while the bride laughed along with the guests.

Congratulations on your marriage Annie and David!

Bible Study Update

Ok, we have had a lot of ladies write in and tell us that they are very excited for the bible study. But, some girls are busy on Monday's. So, we are going to add a new element to the study of how to be a good wife.

We are going to get everyone the book, whether or not they can attend, so they can do the lessons at home. Throughout the week, we are going to ask all members to post thoughts, comments, realizations, struggles or anything they are going through on our blog. This will be a great way for us to experience this study together. And, on Tuesdays, we will post on our blog the discussion highlights from the Monday night group.

We want to include anyone that is interested. And this will give people the opportunity to hear what God's word has to say about being a wife even if they can't attend.

So if you are interested in doing the bible study with us, but cannot attend the meetings, send me your contact info to get the booklet to you. We will start out first blog post Tuesday October 6th.

Fall Inspired Wedding Cakes

I've decided to give Tinley a break and do a blog myself :) This blog is dedicated to you themed brides out there!! Here are a few tips for fall wedding cakes...

Make the most of your fall wedding by picking a cake with fall flavors.

Instead of white cake, choose pumpkin cake with cream cheese frosting, spiced cake with cream butter frosting, or almond lemon cake with lemon frosting!

Decorate the cake with maple elaves, acorns, branches, or other inspired fall embellisments. We love the way the colors graduate from dark to light!

Consider these fall colors to be apart of your wedding cake: marigold, red, brown, bronze, yellow, burnt orange, or deep pink.I found this helpful wedding advice from The Knot: Whether you've already picked a cake design, or you've decided to take your cake in a not-so-seasonal direction, consider adding a side to serve with your cake to mimic the season. Serve cake à la mode with pumpkin ice cream; add a handful of caramel candies to each plate; or serve each slice with warm poached pears. One of our favorites is adding mini carmel apples to the dessert table. Yum!

Bible study for new or soon to be wives

I'm sure most of you have heard about our bible study starting October 5 at 7:00pm. We will be studying what the bible has to say about being a good wife. The main verses for this study are 1 Peter 3:1-7.

We are so excited to get this group of women together to talk about this! We see so many couples getting married every year. And, we thought, how can we glorify God in our business. And the bible study idea seemed like a great fit.

We are inviting anyone and everyone to this study. Whether you are getting married someday, getting married soon, just married or have been married for years, we would love to have you come. When you open God's word, you will be blessed!

The study will be every Monday night at 7:00pm for 6 weeks. We are meeting at our office, The Stables, at 322 S. Mosley Ste 15. The books are $5 and we would like to get them mailed out to everyone before the study. You can pay for the books on October 5th.

Real Wedding: Megan and Matt

Megan and Matt were married on June 20th. The reception was held at Century Plaza downtown. Megan had very specific likes! For example, she loves barbie pink, shoes and the kids she teaches. Here is how she incorporated all her loves into her wedding.

These shoes are absolutely adorable. And, peeking out of the bottom of her wedding dress, they made a fun statement. She took the shoe idea and incorporated it into her candy buffet at the reception as well.

To save on budget and not waste beautiful arrangements from Moore's flowers, the bride used her ceremony flowers at the reception as well. While all the guests were at the cocktail hour, we moved the ceremony balls to the reception guest tables. Good thinking!

Megan had all of her first graders write down their advice on marriage. She printed them on the backs of each table number and stuck it in the middle of each arrangement. This was a lot of fun for the guests to learn a little about Megan and Matt as a couple and get a few good laughs.

This is the candy buffet that Megan designed. She had great candies picked out. Some store bought, some home made, but all creatively displayed.

Another very creative idea was to have a gourmet burger bar. This was not just hamburgers! Corporate Caterers grilled hamburgers on site and then had a TON of different sauces, garnishes and breads. Megan made menus that sat at every place setting. The DJ, Accent Mobile, reminded everyone to pick their toppings before they went to eat.

Megan and Matt made is extra special by telling the guests their favorite flavor combinations. They named a few others as well. Guests really got to know a little bit about this couple at every turn!

Finally, the bride and groom danced the night away with family and friends.

Trends we LOVE, LOVE, LOVE (and some we don't) Part 2

Stacey posted her "trends" blog awhile back. And now I have mine to share. With so many ideas floating around the wedding world, it's hard to say what is in and what is out. And traditionally, in Kansas, we are a little behind times anyway. So, that makes it even harder to say what's in or out around the rest of the country without scaring the crap out of you. So, I think the most important thing to remember is it's your wedding. If you love it, do it! If you don't love it, don't do it!

Ok, here are my trends I love, trends I think have a shelf life and trends I think are over.

Trends I love:

Signature drinks - especially when they are a bright color, or named somthing cute to represtent the couple.

Colorful bridal shoes - OMG is all I have to say!

Custom cake stands

Bright colored ring bearer pillows

Ruffles

Aisles with petals designs - not just sprinkled, but actual designs

Mixing metals

Lounge seating instead of traditional tables - You can afford it with the new company we are working with. Your grandma may not understand the concept, but we LOVE it.

Food stations - Long buffet lines are so boring and they make your guests feel like cattle. Food stations encourage guests to mingle and eat through out the evening so that it is more entertainment than just eating. Try fun foods and add lots of ways for guests to customize their meals. If you have fries, have like 8 different sauces.

Lighting designers

Monochromatic color schemes - If you are in the Wichita area, you need to go see the Moore's flower showroom. I saw their purple display and about fell over! And if you know me, I stay away from alot of purples in my events. But this was the perfect example of mono. color schemes.

Charcoal grey and ______: Like Stacey said with brown, this is just an awesome neutral that brides should consider more.

Trends I think are over:

TULLE, especially with twinkle lights

Chocolate fountains - they are messy and over done. There are so many other ways to incorporate fun, colorful desserts without asking me to dip my fingers into the community chocolate bowl.

Ray's Party Rental Showroom

Last week, we spent our days with the team at Ray's Party Rental. We took apart their show room and put it back together. They approached us a few weeks ago to redecorate the show room for fall and transition into Christmas. We had a lot of fun.

But, as you look through these table set ups, remember that the goal was not elaborate design. The goal was to use the linens that they have in stock to produce unique color combinations and ideas to show people how to use linens in different ways. The goal was to rent stuff!

On this table set up, along with the first table show, we used grey as our focus. The first table is silver satin with black picture frames laid down and lamps put in the middle. Now, we would have loved to fill this table with bright red flowers, but this table will be up for weeks and they just wouldn't last. Then, on the second table we used metals as our inspiration. The silver cloth is combined with gold satin sashes wrapped around the chairs vertically and along the table top. Both tables are fairly contemporary in feel.

This table set up was very fall! We used golds and burnt oranges. Then we mixed the basic poly linens on bottom with crinkled satin linens on top to add some texture. We used 3 hurricane shades with pillar candles in the middle with gold chargers and fun fall accents. The chairs are ivory with gold sashes.

This table was too cute and just for the babies! Again, we used silver satin as our base (they have a lot of that in stock). We used metal boxes to stage our pumpkins at different heights. And we put pumpkin color kits at each setting for the kiddos to stay entertained. This is a great table for any event that has several kids.

We set up their tall bar with a signature drink arrangement on top. For the open house in November, we will fill these glasses with a green signature drink. We used orchids around to add color.

This table quickly became known as the peacock table. This was not our original vision, but the green crinkle satin was just a stunning color! And mixed with the teals, blues and purples of fall, we thought it was awesome. It's hard to get a great look, and because I am not a professional photographer, you will need to visit the show room to get the full effect of all these table arrangments!!!

Here is another setting you need to see to believe:). This is one of the beds that Rays rents. We covered it in a cloth, added low cocktail tables in matching eggplant, threw on some pillows and you have occassional seating. We added cream paper lanterns above each table to look like lamps. FUN FUN.

This table was set up as a long double sided guest table or head table. We did a little DIY project and added the Mr. and Mrs. signs to the chairs. We wanted to use the candelabras as centerpieces, but we wanted color as well. So we put brown wicker balls with red hydrangea in the center of each one and added candles on the smaller arms. We added silver chargers and red napkins and sashes.

The linen on this table has to be one of my favorites. The copper crushed satin, it's so beautiful. We used this linen to go from the fall section to the christmas section of the showroom. The tied a "flower" into the top of the linen so that no centerpiece was needed. Then, set it up as a place card table. One of our girls had fun naming all the guests. I think scrooge, baby Jesus, Kevin Mcallister and the Grinch were a few of the people invited:).

This is where we featured the stage and ceremony area. We did it in Christmas decor, but non-traditional colors. We picked copper, brown and red to tie into the fall theme in the rest of the show room. We love these new brown pillars that Rays just got in.

Over all, we had a lot of fun redoing all of this! You need to go by the showroom, even if it's just to take a peek! It looks SO much better in person!

DIY favor bag

We saw another blogger talking about creating your own favor bags. So we thought we would give it a try. And, I think they turned out pretty cute. And, they are super cost effective for the bride on a budget. They might be a little big for favors, but here are some other ways you could use these fun personalized bags:

bridesmaid or groomsmen gift bags

to go bags for late night snacks

kids activity bags

The first bag has 2 different ribbons lined up on top of each other. Then we took two fun printed papers and cut them out in 2" and 1 3/4" inch squares. Then we printed a monogram letter and cut it into a 1 1/2" square. We used glue dots from our local scrapbooking store to hold it all together. The great thing about this is you can make them exactly how you want!
The next bag has a custom printed thank you note on the front and a fun decal on the back. We cut it in a 2 1/2" rectangle and cut both bottoms with scallop scissors. Then we used a ruler to get a tight fold and stuck it on the bag with glue dots.

These projects are great for a girls night with all your bridesmaids. Get a bottle of wine, pretty paper, brown bags and have FUN!

Real Wedding - Featured: Ashley and Kristjan

Ashley and Kristjan were married June 19th at Botanica Gardens. They were such a fun couple to work with! They were both very open to ideas of how to make the reception fun and energetic. The wedding colors were red, black and white. Both families were very talented and contributed to the event. Ashley's brother designed and produced the wedding dress, and did Ashley's hair on the wedding day. Kristjans dad performed a touching ceremony on the terrace at Botanica. The other details were brought together by a group of fabulous vendors. Jubilation Events (that's us) was the designer and coordinator. We were excited to use a new product at this wedding. We were able to transform the banquet room at Botanica by installing a faux wall. We created the 3 sided 12 foot walls with Velon. Ashley picked a fun black and white pattern Velon that created an amazing effect along with the 12 foot monogram that hung in the middle of the room. In that room also, Corporate Caterers set up 6 food stations, each decorated with red and crystal base lamps and a fun candy buffet.Of course, the wonderfully talented, and super nice guy, Tim Davis from http://www.timdavisphotography.com/ did the photography. This collection came out stunning!

The cake was created by Cake Affairs. We moved it outside for the cutting, but it was on display inside. All the sound and lighting was provided by Accent Mobile. The lit the place on "fire". Well, kind of, they had red uplights all around the terrace. It was an amazing effect.

The bride and groom finished the night by having all their family and friends line up to see them off. They gave each guest a glow stick. It was the perfect way to wave goodbye!

Honeymoons

I have had a lot of questions about honeymoons lately. Our couples are exploring new options for their honeymoons. Some of the things we have seen them do or ask about are:

1. Taking other couples along on the honeymoon.

One of our planners said that she wishes she would have taken a couple or two along with them. While she had a great time, it would have been nice to have people their to go out with. My suggestion is to just have a talk with the couples and remind them that there will be times when you and your new spouse will want to be alone. Don't be afraid to say that you are doing your own thing at any time.

2. Going to all inclusive resorts.

While this is not a new honeymoon experience. We have seen a lot of couples going back to this option with the economy the way that it is. Our couples are liking the idea of paying one price for everything and being able to budget for that amount. We do offer Sandals and Beaches honeymoon planning. There are so many great resorts to choose from. All alcohol, food, room and water sports are included at every resort. At some resorts, golf is also included. 3. Waiting on the honeymoon.

Some couples are considering waiting to go on the honeymoon. They are opting to travel in less peak seasons. While I think this is a good cost saver, I would still suggest getting away in some form. If you are planning to take a big trip later in the year, you can take a small weekend get-a-way to a nearby city. The important thing is that you spend some quality time together, it doesn't really matter where you are!

Today Stacey is telling us all about what she loves, hates and thinks we will be seeing for a while, when it comes to weddings. I'm going to post mine later this week. But, it's funny that we pretty much see eye to eye on most things! That's probably why we work so well together.

Wedding Trends I Love (by Stacey)

Photographers blogs: Good photographers get to know the bride and groom and can express their personalities through photographs. I like their blogs because I want to know their perspective and I am able to see the wedding day through someone else’s eyes.

Inspiration boards: This is essence of creativity and design. I love making these to help inspire brides to think “outside of the box”.

Creative Invitation Designs: Let’s face it, this is the first thing guests will see in regards to your wedding day so make a statement. I like the use of patterns and intricate designs.

Bold Color Schemes: Love, Love, Love. Black, eggplant, apple green, teal, hot pink (yes I said hot pink… done in the right way). Even a black and white wedding can make a statement if you distribute the colors in an exciting way.

Monochromatic flowers: What a great way to bring texture to your bouquets and centerpieces without sacrificing your color theme. It’s fun and adds excitement to your flowers.

DIY Projects: For years grandma was put in charge of making a few things to save some money, but today brides are more creative than ever. There are hundreds of DIY projects that make your wedding your own and its something that has come back and will stay.

Unusual Venues: This is something that can be difficult, but not impossible. It just takes effort in creativity. Mansions, museums, yachts, farm, vineyard, public gardens, private homes just to name a few. We once put a tent inside of a gym… yes, a gym.

Lighting: Want to transform your reception into a magazine wedding? Use lighting. I can’t encourage it enough!

Customized Ring Bearer Pillows: We do them! Why use the same kind of pillow that EVERYONE uses?? Be creative and customize your own pillow with your colors and embellishments.

80’s Songs: Not sure if this is a “trend”, but I love it anyway. I don’t know why, but everyone knows the lyrics and your guests can sing the night away on the dance floor.

Wedding Trend that are Out!

Choreographed First Dance: We’ve all seen it, whether in person or on YouTube watching bride and grooms break out into “It’s getting hot in here”. Yes they are fun, but it just won’t last.

Stargazer Lilies: There are so many other flowers that are much more trendy and up to date.

Pastels: Say good bye to light blue as “something blue” and say hello to navy blue. Rich gem colors like plum, amber, bronzes and coppers are the new thing.

Wedding Trends with a shelf life

Chocolate Brown and _____: I don’t think incorporating brown into your color scheme will ever go out of style. It’s dark enough to make bright colors pop and it brings on a style of its own.

Cocktail Hours: There is no better way to get your guests mingling than to serve them cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. So much of the wedding includes formality so this can be the time to let your guests get comfortable before the dancing begins.

Candy/Dessert Bars: Instead of personalizing a favor for each place setting, you can choose to personalize your own candy/dessert bar. These get more and more innovative and delicious so I don’t see this kind of bar phasing out.

New Etsy.com Store

We have put in so much time on these adorable ring bearer pillows! They did great at the show in July. And, now we created a store on Etsy.com. It's a website for people to sell all things handmade. I just started late last night, so I only have a few items up. But it should all be finished by today!

The A-Mazing Tim Davis Photography did all of our product shots. They look great! I did dress my little cutie up in a tux to show off the pillows. I couldn't resist, and he was such a trooper. But there are close ups and all that for people who actually want to see the pillows too.

We have had a lot of fun dates the last few years. For us, it started with 7/7/07 and just keeps going. 10/10/10 just happens to fall on a Sunday. But, the following Monday is Columbus day, so if your guests work for a bank or school, they'll be fine!

We wanted to put this blog out now because with such a popular date we didn't want you ladies thinking you could put off plans "because you have so much time". NOT TRUE. It's simple supply and demand. Vendors and venues are going to be in high demand for that date. So don't put off booking the people you want because they could be gone soon.

Ok...enough lecturing. We want to hear some fun ideas for incorporating the "10" theme into your wedding. We've heard, "perfect 10", but we want some really original ideas. If you have a monogram with "10" incorporated into it, or if you have a unique way you are going to arrange tables, anything....we want to hear it!

A big "Thank you!" to all the brides and people who stopped by our booth at the tradeshow this weekend at Century II.

Our booth featured several services that we provide, including linen orders, invitations, ring-bearer pillows and The MacBeth Collection buckets. We decorated with a Velon design back-drop that was a black and white pattern. We featured a table with red and black accents. One of our favorite parts of the booth was our glass, ball chandelier with rose petals hanging from the wrought-iron awning we put in the booth. Finally, "If Walls Could Talk" provided the floor and sign monogram with our name on it.

Kris and Susan

Kris and Susan joined in marriage on April 18 at University Congregational Church in Wichita, KS. Following the ceremony, guests went to Botanica Gardens to enjoy cocktail hour in the main lobby while the bride and groom had a chance to greet everyone.

The reception was a mix of American and Vietnamese influences. Tom's Lotus Garden catered a seven-course Vietnamese meal. Guests also enjoyed music by the band Karma, and Vietnamese karaoke throughout the night.

Susan, her sister and mother changed into traditional Vietnamese attire to greet all of her guests and thank them for coming.

Kristin and Alex

Kristin and Alex were married on May 16th at Halstead Methodist Church in Halstead, KS. The guests, wedding party and couple were transported to the Prarie Dunes in Hutchinson, KS to have the reception.

Moore's Flowers provided all of the flowers and centerpieces for the reception and wedding.

Guests enjoyed food provided by the Prarie Dunes, chocolate favors from Cocoa Dulce, and danced the evening away to music provided by The Source Band.

Wedding featured in the Fall/Winter Knot Magazine!

Ashley and David were married at Botanica Gardens on May 9, 2009. They chose to not see each other until Ashley was walking down the aisle, so the day was filled with anticipation and excitement.

Three Strands officiated the wedding while T&J Studios photographed the day. Ashley chose Tiffany blue, red and chocolate brown as her colors.

Moore's flowers did a beautiful job with creative, unique flower arrangements for the tables, using cherry blossom sticks with hanging votives. The bouquets had tulips and red and pink peonies.

Jubilations strung lights around the dance floor area of the terrace at Botanica. Larkspur catered the event, while Another Dimension provided DJ services for guests to dance the night away. Ashley took a creative approach to Botanica and added parts of her personal taste to all of the wedding. Pictures of her and David were hung from the bushes leading to the ceremony, buckets with personalized initials were placed around the reception site with bottles of water for guests.

Congratulations on your new life together, David and Ashley!

Ann and Chris married at St. Mary's Cathedral in Wichita, Kan.

The happy couple celebrated their union at The Petroleum Club, who also catered the reception. Attendees enjoyed a live jazz band.

The bride's mother made most of the decor by hand. She asked the Petroleum Club to take out the windows. Then she hung strands of balls in place of the windows. Under the blue glass vases on the tables, she made plaid ribbon table runners.

One unique thing the couple ordered was chocolate and powdered sugar almonds that the guests loved.

JR Koontz created all of the bouquets, centerpieces and various flower arrangements for the wedding and reception.

Erin and Garrett Pennington- September 13, 2008

Erin and Garret tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony on September 13, 2008 at Hesston Mennonite Church.

Following the wedding, the couple celebrated with a reception in a tent in a gym in Newton, KS. Jubilations worked with the bride to transform an unattractive location into a beautiful and elegant space that glowed with specialty lighting from Accent Mobile. Corporate Caterers adapted to the bride's dietary needs and served a delicious gluten-free menu to all guests. The cake was elegantly created with black ribbon at the base of each tier.

Wedding Forum

Jubilation Events will be hosting a Wedding Forum from 2 to 4 p.m. on February 22, 2009 in Gallery One-Nine on the 19th floor of the SCTelecom building located on Market Street.

This forum is an opportunity for brides-to-be to meet local bridal vendors, attend a fashion show, ask questions, sample products and learn about the latest trends for 2009. Cake designers and caterers will have samples of their work available to try. We will have new design concepts for all guests to see, from table decor to specialty lighting.

The first 25 brides in the door will receive a VIB (Very Important Bride) gift bag with goodies from the vendors featured at the forum. Space is limited to 50-75 people, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible.

Event Lighting

We are often asked what people can do to transform their reception space so that it doesn't look like every other wedding that's been there. One thing we always suggest is lighting, lighting, lighting! LED lighting allows for specific areas of a reception to be lit, such as a stage or dance floor. But they also allow for fun elements like throwing a pattern all over the ceiling and walls to create an amazing atmosphere. You can do anything from all red lighting transforming the space into a contemporaty lounge feel, or washing the room in amber lights to create a romantic feel. The great thing about LED lighting is it can all change with the push of a button. You can have a romantic dinner with amber lighting and then once the dance starts turn the lights to a pattern of mixed colors all over the room for a night club atmosphere. Another benefit to lighting is that you can highlight special accents in the room. If you have a dance floor monogram, beautiful floral centerpieces or any other special item, they look their best when highlighted with specialty lighting. We suggest sitting down with your event designer or a lighting expert to determine the lighting that will best compliment your event and budget.

Signature drinks

A fun trend that we are seeing is the signature drink. Brides are saying good bye to punch bowls and opting for a more upscale option. Most signature drinks are served during the cocktail hour or upon entrance to the reception. Greeting your guests with a refreshing, elegant drink makes them feel appreciated as a guests and sets a great tone for the rest of the reception.

You can make a signature drink any color or mixture that you like. You can have a non-alcoholic option that is light and refreshing for hot summer days. A good choice would be a sparkling water with fruit filled ice cubes. You can tint the water to match your event colors. Or, you can do a cocktail with a sugar rim at a contemporary event. Try a white russian at an all white wedding. The drink options are endless! A good bartender will be able to suggest simple drinks in your color palette.

Q We're confused. Should our favors be ordered per person or per couple?

A It all depends on the favor. If you're boxing something simple and sweet for guests to take home (M&M's, almonds, or other candies in your wedding colors, for instance), give one package to each guest. If, however, you're distributing a pricier item like silver votive candleholders, you can distribute one to each couple.

Q What's the best way to distribute favors? Should we hand them out personally or leave them by each place setting?

A It depends on what the favor is and how it's packaged. If the favor has a scent, don't set it on the table, since it may interfere with the aromas during dinner, advises Joyce Scardina Becker, of Events of Distinction in San Francisco. If it's scentless and comes in attractive packaging, you can leave it on the table, above each guest's place setting. If you're big on presentation, hand the favors out personally or have them distributed individually to guests by the waitstaff. --Donna Christiano

Q I have a very tight budget, and I really can't afford to give favors. Do you have to have them?

A They are by no means mandatory. So if you can't afford something you really like, just let 'em go. Your guests won't even notice. But there are a few ideas that can be pulled off on the cheap. Get two things for the price of one: Your florist can design breakaway centerpieces, so each guest can take home a tiny bouquet of flowers or a pretty plant. And some of the most guest-pleasing favors--a sweet little bag of candy, tiny packets of flower seeds--are also some of the least expensive. Lastly, some brides opt for making a donation to their favorite charity, and print up cards that read: "In lieu of a favor, a donation has been made to the ASPCA." Q. How do we get married on a small budget?
A. You can have a beautiful wedding on any budget. The key is to be realistic about what you can afford. Know what you have to spend – Ask all involved parties what they are willing to contribute. Then, determine your priorities and establish your budget off of them. If photography is most important to you, make sure to put enough in the budget to get what you want. But, also, know that you will probably have to compromise somewhere else. Consider your options. You will have options in each vendor category. For example, when picking your wedding date, look at a time of year, day of the week and time of day when prices are not at a premium. Finally, the easiest way to cut cost is through your guest list. 50-60% of most budgets are consumed by the price per head of their guests. At $30 a person, those extra 20 people you don't really know are going to cost you $600.00.

And remember, a wedding planner should be able to save you not only time, but money as well. Their experience with the local vendors and any discounts they receive should allow your budget to go further than if you were working by yourself.
